So you have decided that you want to take up astronomy. Many do! It’s a fascinating hobby after all. Many take up astronomy because their interest has been fired by a TV documentary which introduces them to the wonders of the heavens. Others become interested after talking to an avid amateur astronomer, and get bitten by the bug of wanting to look at a closer view of the stars and planets.

Still others were interested as children, but then lost the interest, only to have it rekindled in later life, perhaps by seeing a TV documentary, talking to an amateur astronomer, or maybe just one day looking up at the night sky and being bitten with a longing for those long-forgotten childhood pleasures of discovering the universe.

So the next step is, of course, to go out and buy a telescope. Or is it? Here’s a strange piece of advice, think of a pair of binoculars first. Why? Because, quite simply, a good pair of binoculars will allow you to see much of what you can see with a telescope. And a good pair of binoculars can often give a better view (a much better view in many cases) than a cheap telescope.

This is because binoculars have a wide field of view and allow you to navigate the sky very easily. Many great things can be seen with binoculars, including hundreds of thousands of stars, many of the most striking star clusters and most of the planets of the solar system. You can also see much of the detail of the moon, including craters and mountains.

But eventually you will want a telescope. And as with all purchases, the best thing to do is ask an expert which is the best one. And where do you find experts? At your local astronomy club, of course. Ask the members about the pros and cons of the different telescopes. Every telescope has its advantages and disadvantages. With the experience of a pro under your belt you’ll be able to buy the telescope that’s right for your viewing needs.

The stars have long been speculated upon, in myths and stories, and are a big part of culture in many histories and in many peoples. With the onset of technology, and with things like the Discovery Telescope, we find that we are suddenly able to see the things that we have never been able to see before, and to do things with this information that we have never been able to do before. The many uses for the Discovery Telescope include finally being able to see the stars.

With the Discovery Telescope, which is quite a high power telescope, people are able to see father than they have ever seen before, and when this depth of sight comes to a world, it comes with much more understanding. There have been many discoveries that have been made because of the Discovery Telescope, and there have been much learned because of this as well.

Many Uses

Other things that the Discovery Telescope, which is not too expensive and which can be found anywhere you want to purchase telescopes, can do include looking at and taking pictures of the stars. You can take a picture of the things that you are seeing and you are able to upload these pictures onto your computer, where you can use software which will teach you about what you have actually been seeing. It is something that is very helpful to students and teachers alike, as well as simply those that want to be able to discover the stars.

You should also know that the Discovery Telescope is going to come with a number of different things that you can use to make your viewing easier. There are going to be slides and grids that you can use so you can figure out where you are in the night sky, and there will also be star maps that will help you figure out what you are seeing, based upon the place you are and what season it is.

With the Discovery Telescope you are going to be able to truly discover what man has been searching for in the stars for so long, the meanings behind what you cannot see, and the dept to which you know the stars will go. There are many things that you are going to be able to discover, once you have this telescope.

Realize that a kids telescope is not a toy, but a fully functioning beginner telescope without all the advanced features.

Giving your youngster a kids telescope will let them know that you support their interest in astronomy and see it as a worthwhile endeavor. A real telescope, even without all the features, can give your child or grandchild a head start in learning about the universe and star systems.

Investing in a Kids Telescope

While you can purchase a child telescope for under $25, these are really more of a toy than a functioning astronomy telescope. A real basic beginner telescope can be purchased for around $100 and can provide the young astronomer with a gateway to the heavens. If you wish to invest a little more, a good starter telescope with some of the more advanced features, will cost anywhere from $200 to $300. This will provide your youngster with a quality piece of stargazing equipment.

As the child’s interest grows, an investment in a more sophisticated telescope model might be appropriate. For instance, many young astronomers enjoy having the capability to photograph certain star formations or passing comets.

Tips for Buying the Right Child Telescope

Many astronomers and educators recommend a telescope with a longer focal length and separate viewer. This allows the child to find objects much easier and reduces the frustration that can result for the novice astronomer.

There are many cheaper models that offer a focal length of only 30mm or 50mm and will provide a more generalized view of the night sky. However, if you want a telescope that will provide a more detailed picture of the planets, moon and constellations, a 70mm or higher focal length is strongly recommended.

Kids telescopes are available from a number of top-rate optics companies like Meade, Celestron, Bushnell, Orion and many others. Even the Discovery Channel offers an affordable kids telescope with easy set-up and easy-to-use features.

Meade provides some of the best telescopes on the market today and caters to the amateur astronomer – from beginner to expert levels. For example, a 1000mm focal length telescope with photographic capabilities can be purchased for about $150. This is an excellent choice for the new astronomer because it provides a very good view of the heavens and shows details of the planets and moon that are generally not found with a telescope in this price range. An added bonus is that a 35mm camera can be attached to this telescope that allows your child to preserve those special night sky views on film.

How to Use a Kids Telescope

Reading the instructions for your child’s new telescope can’t be stressed enough. Even the basic kids’ telescopes can be confusing to use the first few times. It is advisable for the parent to read through the instruction manual and help the child astronomer learn the basics of the telescope’s operating features.

A great way to enhance your child’s interest in astronomy is to view the night skies together. There is no better way to bond with your child than by enjoying the same hobbies and actively pursuing them together.

A kids telescope can open up a whole new exciting world to your youngster. It can broaden their understanding of the universe and allow them to be a part of the cosmos beyond just this planet. Why not invest in your child by getting them a kids telescope for fun, education, and a true bonding experience.

When we were children we were often taught that we could wish upon the first star that we saw in the evening sky. After that wish was made and if we believed hard enough our wish would come true. Eventually, our childhood fantasies gave way to fact as we became more educated. This education was accomplished through astronomy classes, space exploration and other educational means.

The word astronomy is comprised of two Greek words. The Greek word astro means star shaped or star and pertains to outer space. The word onomy literally means the study of. Therefore, astronomy is the study of the stars.

One of the major tools that assists amateur and professional astronomers in understanding and respecting the galaxy is the astronomy telescope. When looking to purchase a good astronomy telescope there are a number of factors that you can keep in mind. First, of all consider some practical suggestions, remember it is about the diameter of the lens, and make sure your telescope has a solid stand.

Practical Suggestions

Before you purchase your astronomy telescope it is important to conduct your research. One way of conducting this research can be accomplished by accessing the Internet and learning more about telescopes. Some of the questions that you should endeavor to answer surround what features to look for in a telescope, approximate cost, recommended brands, etc.

Another practical suggestion, before you purchase your astronomy telescope, is to “test drive” a telescope. This can be accomplished by joining an astronomy club. Often these clubs will have a stargazing event which will allow you to peer through the telescopes owned by the various members.

Another way of conducting research, prior to purchasing an astronomy telescope, is to ask the members in the club as to what telescope they would recommend. The key is education. Listen for the features they recommend, brand names, the diameter of the lens, price, etc.

Also, you may come across a member of the club who is considering the purchase of a new telescope. If so, you may be able to purchase their used telescope.

Diameter Of The Lens

When considering the purchase of an astronomy telescope it is important to remember what is the key feature surrounding your purchase. That key feature should focus on the diameter of the lens of the telescope and not its advertised magnification.

This is because the diameter of the lens equates to the amount of light that can be received by the telescope. Therefore, the larger the diameter of the lens the more light that is captured. This in turn allows for the image that you are viewing to become more visible.

Solid Base

Another very important feature when considering the purchase of your astronomy telescope is to ensure that it has a solid base. Generally, these bases or mounts are tripods.

It is important that when the telescope is mounted on these bases that the telescope does not shake or move. Obviously, any movement by the telescope, when peering into space, will distort the image being viewed and provide a negative experience.

This company, based in India, prides itself on offering excellent telescopes and one-on-one service with knowledgeable people who use the telescopes themselves. This allows Galileo Telescope to not only offer excellent optical equipment, but also excellent customer service.

Begun in India in 1989, Galileo Telescope began its life by offering telescopes for Indian amateur astronomers who need a quality telescope for their stargazing needs. Determined to set themselves apart from the rest of the market, Galileo Telescope came out with an 8-inch telescope, which is rather large by Indian standards. And, even more, Galileo’s first telescope was easy to use, allowing even novice astronomers to learn it quickly.

With this success under their belts, Galileo Telescope continued to innovate. First, they developed a reliable, easy to operate mount that allowed amateurs to have a stable platform for their telescopes. Then they stretched out to create larger telescopes for deeper explorations of space, while also creating portable models that made for easier carrying and transportation.

Additionally, Galileo Telescope is the only Indian company to offer its customers Dobsonian telescopes. This large, rugged and reliable design is well known and familiar to amateur astronomers, as it makes large-aperture telescopes an affordable option for the backyard skywatcher. While made from a simple, Newtonian design, its simplicity allows it to be a very reliable and very powerful option for people who want to peer into the vastness of space.

For those who want the challenge of building their own telescopes, Galileo Telescope also offers an excellent selection of lenses, mirrors, eyepieces that will allow amateurs to create a telescope to their own specifications and give themselves the view that they uniquely desire. And, for the nervous novices who want a little more help with their telescope building adventures, Galileo also offers telescope kits that will allow them to build their own telescope and learn the inner workings of optical instruments in a less risky situation.

In addition to their standard line of Dobsonian telescopes, Galileo Telescope also offers a wide range of equipment for a variety of needs. Whether it might be a spotting scope, binoculars, a tripod or a refracting telescope, the people at Galileo Telescope are always eager to use their expertise to stretch themselves into new areas. And, as Galileo expands their reach into new realms, rest assured that they are just as committed to crafting some of the finest optics available.

For people who want a telescope that has been created, tried and tested by people who use the optics they offer, Galileo Telescope is an excellent name to trust. They pride themselves on designing and creating excellent telescopes that they are willing to stand behind and support. And with their one-on-one support, they will be able to help anyone who has questions or needs assistance with their products. All of which makes Galileo Telescope a company that amateur astronomers can turn to when they want to turn their eyes to the heavens.
